The Griswold Elementary School library encourages a love of reading, exploration, knowledge, and sharing between children and adults. Some areas of concentration when students visit the library are the different genres, award winning books, story retelling and story elements, learning to navigate our OPAC (online patron access catalog), accessing information with the use of our databases, and the use of makerspace materials.

2025 Summer Reading

Connecticut Reads: The Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge 2025 – LEVEL UP at your Library

GES Students entering PreK – Grade 4 next year are invited to participate in this program during the summer. Write down the title of any books* you read in the Reading Journal.  You do NOT have to fill in all the lines. This is for fun. It doesn’t matter if you read 2 books or 32 books! The important thing is to fill out the information on the back of the journal with your first and last name and the name of your 2025-2026 (next year's) teacher.

You can also participate with the Summer Reading Game Board and Summer Reading Bingo Card.

*If you don’t have a printed journal, it is OK to use a sheet of paper as long as you include the information on the back. (Name, grade, teacher, etc)

Read whatever you enjoy!

The Slater Library in Jewett City has many resources and fun programs; learn more about their Children's Department and Summer Reading Programs at the Library! To support summer reading, Slater Library participates in the Connecticut State Library’s statewide eGo eBook platform; this provides access to digital e books and e audiobooks through The Palace Project App

Suggestions:

*If you participate in any of the public library programs or someone reads a book to you, those count. So do audiobooks, magazine articles, online articles, and ebooks.

Return the journals during the first two weeks back to school in the fall of 2025 (by mid September). Participants will receive a certificate of participation. HAVE FUN!
