What Are Students Learning?
Our second grade program builds strong foundations in reading, writing, and math while encouraging curiosity and collaboration. We use research-based core programs: Fundations for phonics and word study, Bookworms to foster love of reading and writing, and Illustrative Math for hands-on, conceptual math learning.
Students gain fluency and confidence as readers and writers, strengthen number sense (including addition, subtraction, and place value), and explore science and social studies through hands-on activities.
We emphasize kindness, respect, caring, responsibility, inclusiveness, courage, and active participation to create a supportive classroom community.
Families can help by reading with your child daily, practicing math facts, and staying in close communication with the teacher. Together, we’ll make this a positive, successful year of growth and discovery!
🎨 Exploratory Classes
Students attend weekly exploratory classes including music, art, technology, physical education, and health. They also participate in weekly book exchanges at the school library media center. These experiences enrich their learning and make school more meaningful and engaging.
